Spanish winemaker, and pioneer in the industry, Álvaro Palacios has received a very special honor, as he was named 2015 Decanter Man of the Year by the prestigious wine magazine. This exciting announcement will officially reach readers and the general public in the April issue of Decanter.
This is a tremendous honor, and Palacios is the first Spaniard to receive this distinction. His track record in the sector is especially outstanding. He first embarked in the world of wine on the family property in Rioja Baja. Later he studied in Bordeaux, France, and worked at the Château Petrus. Soon after he starting making his own wine and, using modern techniques, produced some of the best wines in Priorat in 1989. He eventually returned to the family winery where, under his guidance, it has produced some of the region’s most well-respected wines. He and his nephew, Ricardo Palacios, have teamed up and helped revive the region. He is considered to be a true innovator, and is expected to continue on this same path in the future.
